Bowen signed to be lockdown defender for ESPN’s Men’s Basketball League team

Former San Antonio Spurs forward Bruce Bowen was signed off waivers today by ESPN’s senior men’s basketball team, the Bristol Warriors in an" “attempt to strengthen their defense,” said Warriors General Manager Dr. Jack Ramsey.  Bowen joins a roster full of former NBA players as their starting lineup consists of Avery Johnson, Jalen Rose and Tim Legler.

“Bruce will fit very nicely into what we are trying to do here.  With his signing, I would say that we are the team to beat,” Bill Walton, the Warriors head coach, said in a press conference to announce the signing.  “We were a good team last year but Bruce will add youth, energy and a tenacious defensive attitude.  Something I feel we were lacking last year.”

Other teams in the league were not as pleased that Bowen was claimed.  We asked a member of Huskies' Nation what his thoughts were on the signing and he wished to be anonymous in fear of getting dunked on. “It’s really not fair.  I mean, a lot of them played in the NBA at one point of their lives and I just played some high school ball. The league was fun for all of the teams a few years ago but then ESPN decided to make a team with all of the NBA players that they have on their shows.”

It was three years ago that ESPN entered the Bristol Men’s Basketball League and they have still yet to lose a game.  “We don’t want to say dynasty quite yet, but I believe that we are on our way there,” Dr. Jack Ramsey said.  “We need to keep playing hard and playing our game to be spoken in the same breath as the NBA TV/TNT squad.”  The squad that Ramsey referred to is the famed Hot-Lanta Showmen.  A team that consists of Kenny Smith, Reggie Miller, Chris Webber, Eric Snow and coached by Charles Barkley.

“I’m excited to be a part of the winning tradition that the Warriors have,” Bowen said. “I hope to contribute right away and help out the team in anyway I can.  I’ll to the late Sportscenter if they need me to.  Or the morning one.  Which ever.  I’m pretty flexible.”

The addition of Bowen will very likely ensure another title for the Warriors and fans everywhere will debate which team is really better: The Hot-Lanta Showmen or the Bristol Warriors.  I say, let the debate begin.

Monday Montage: 2 legit 2 quit

What has happened to me? Only one post for the month of December? What is up with that? I have been slacking but the time for procrastination has come to an end. I just picked up my new computer today so lets pop it's blogging cherry shall we? And what better way to do this then to bring back an old favorite...the Monday Montage.

What do we make of the Vikings struggling terrible on two straight nationally televised road games?

More specifically, what happens with the Chilly/ Favre fiasco on the sidelines during the game?

How much money have I spent at the McDonald's in Cannon Falls?

How many times can Big Ben throw a touchdown pass with no time on the clock to win a game?

What is up with the winter storm that destroyed much of the eastern half of the states? I can't avoid this damn white stuff no matter how hard I try.

I wonder what Royce White's plans are now that he quit Tubby's squad. If this is any indication, he might want to take a nice look at his life...

Speaking of the Gophers, have you heard if they still field a hockey team?

Speaking of field, will the Gopher football team even bother showing up on one during their bowl game?

How can I score 129 points one week in fantasy football and then score less then 50 the next week?

Are the Philadelphia Eagles now the favorite in the NFC?

What about the Chargers in the AFC?

Has anyone bought anything from QVC?

Are you down with OPP?

Yeah, you know me.

Year review: In Music

Lots of goodies happened to this years music scene and while this is usually a space for my thoughts on the sporting world, I thought that I'd switch it up a bit. I've started to really get into the music scene a little over a year ago when I finally discovered The Current and I haven't changed my dial since. The great thing about The Current is that they do not play commercials (as they are a member supported radio station. Yes, I am a member) and they play great music most all of the day. Obviously there are songs/bands that I don't care for but that is the price you pay for greatness. With that, I wanted to give you my top 10 albums and songs of this past year...

Top Ten Albums of the Year
10. Rural Alberta Advantage - Hometowns
This little group is out of Canada and they use their fast paced drum beats to push their album along. Overall it's a nice little album that is worth a listen

9. P.O.S - Never Better
Local act P.O.S. steps out of the shadow that Atmosphere has cast and produced a very listenable album. Also, P.O.S. quotes a Mitch Hedberg joke in one of his songs which seals the deal for me.

8. Avett Brothers - I & Love & You
The Avett Brothers came out of no where this year to make one of the better albums of the year. The CD has picked up steam lately but my friend's brother was on to them in the middle of the summer so kudos to you Jackson.

7. Eels - El Hombre Lobo
It took me one listen to this CD for me to love it. If you just got dumped and/or got your heart broken then this CD is definitely for you, trust me. Good stuff though.

6. Mason Jennings - Blood of Man
Mason Jennings has cranked out cd after cd but perhaps Blood of Man is his best. We get to see a more rockin' side of Jennings that we have not seen before and it works very well for him. I also have tried many times to download this cd but I can't find it anywhere. If you can, you should help me out.

5. Metric - Fantasies
I was introduced to Metric in early spring and have been a fan since then. All of the songs on the cd are singable and if you ask me to sing them I just might...they are that good.

4. Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zero's - Up From Below
Good cd which is why it is all the way up at #4 in my countdown. 'Nuff said.

3. The XX - The XX
The XX is a group that I just started listening to but I like their cd so much that it's in my top 3 for the entire year. Their music is very simple and easy but that is what makes it so good. The tag-team speaks of love and hate and all that comes with it beautifully and they make it work well on their self titled cd.

2. Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix
Phoenix kicked off the year with a bang in releasing Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. Saw these guys live and they put on one of the best shows that I've seen yet to date. The cd is packed with music to move your feet to and I can assure you that I have done so.

1. White Rabbits - It's Frightening
C'mon, like it would be any other cd? Of course that the White Rabbits made the best cd of the year. Hands down.

Top Ten Songs of the Year
10. White Rabbits - "Percussion Gun"
I start my top ten with the first White Rabbits song that I ever heard. The song basically sums up what the band is. Face-melting.

9. M. Ward - "Never Had Nobody Like You"
M. Ward could potentially the most boring singer/songwriter in the biz today but everyone wins when Zooey is on board.

8. Jason Lytle - "Yours Truly, the Commuter"
Very catchy, very singable, both very important when you are trying to decide the ten best songs of the year.

7. Glasvegas - "Geraldine"
This song falls into the same category as "Yours Truly, the Commuter" but it's a tad better in my mind. I always love when this song comes on the Current because I get to test my vocal range with the bridge of the song. Always a good time.

6. Grizzly Bear - "While You Wait for the Others"
Lots of people went gaga over the Grizzly Bear album but I am not one of those people, I really do like this song quite a bit.

5. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - "Heads Will Roll"
This song just kicks ass. Not much else to say about it. They have came a long way since "Maps".

4. The XX - "Crystalised"
This is the song that got me hooked on The XX. Very simple, very rocking, very good.

3. Mason Jennings - "The Field"
The line that I love about this song is the line, "I don't want no victory, I just want you back". All of us has probably felt this feeling at some point of our lives and its a very true and telling line. Can you really win in the game of love?

2. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros - "Home"
This song would be #1 if I hadn't stumbled upon the White Rabbits. I absolutely love this song and while it sounds cheesy, I want to be in love like the people in the song are someday with someone (preferably Jessica Alba)

And the #1 song of the year is.......

1. White Rabbits - "Lionesse"
Boom goes the dynamite. Listen to the crazy guy singing in the background of this Lionesse/Percussion Gun medley. What a weirdo. He must like the White Rabbits a lot.

There ya have it, my top tens in the music world for the year of 2009. If you don't agree, start your own blog and write about it.

So Many Questions....

The college football regular season has come to a close and the bowl season is fast approaching. We think everything is settled but there are a few questions that need to be answered before we close the book on the 2009 season.

Who will coach at Notre Dame?
This answer seems well in hand as I write this and it looks like Cincinnati's Brian Kelly will be the guy to lead the golden domers next season but is he the right choice? Bigger names are out there (Oklahoma's Bob Stoops, Iowa's Kirk Ferentz, Stanford's Jim Harbaugh to name a few) but all have said no thanks to the job. So who is left? There is one person that Notre Dame should look at and no one has spoke of his name....The coach that Notre Dame should hire is none other then the Messiah himself, Jesus Christ. Look at the positives with this hire. 1) You know he'd be faithful to the Notre Dame's teachings and the school's way of life. 2) He could perform "miracles" and get the best recruits in the country (If Jesus was coaching Notre Dame 4 years ago, Tim Tebow would be more a living legend then he is now and probably would have won 3 Heisman's for the Irish). 3) He's Jesus Christ...what else do you need to know? Done and done.

Who will win this year's Heisman Trophy?
This one is not as simple as the coaching situation at Notre Dame. In my eyes there are only three players out of the five that were invited that have a chance of winning the award. Those three that have a chance are the following: Stanford runningback Toby Gerhart, Alabama runningback Mark Ingram and Nebraska defensive end Kdamukong Suh. Tim Tebow and Colt McCoy had decent years but to be a Heisman winner you have to be extraordinary for that season, something both of the qb's were not. So that leaves us with the three that I previously mentioned. So who wins? Touchdown Toby ended the season with 1,700+ yards and 26 touchdowns...miiiighty impressive. Mark Ingram carried his team to a 13-0 record and saved his best game for the SEC Championship game with 3 td's and 100+ yards. BUT....if I had a vote (which I should, I mean seriously) I would now vote for the big guy from Nebraska. The guy has 12.5 sacks from an interior lineman position which is unheard of. Even more unheard of is that he leads his team in tackles with 82. 82 tackles from a D tackle. That is just stupid. Stupid enough to win the trophy that recognizes the top player in the country.

Who will win the National Championship game?
Alabama. Did you watch them play Florida? Did you watch Texas play Nebraska? If not, then you are reading a blog that has no relevance to you. If so, you know why I am picking Alabama.

Who will win the Insight.com Bowl?
Oh you don't care about who wins between the 6-6 Minnesota Golden Gophers and the 6-6 Iowa State Cyclones? Well, I don't really either. It's a lose lose really. But, naturally I'd like to see the Gophers score a touchdown. That's all. Is that too much to ask?

Will there ever be a playoff in college football?
I sure as hell hope so. I stumbled across an article that someone wrote for Yahoo.com that laid out a very nice foundation for what a playoff would look like. Instead of the popular 8 team bracket this guy had a 16 team bracket that included all 11 FBS conference champions and 5 "at-large" teams. This would be very interesting and I think would please everyone involved. Too bad that it will never happen because the AD's and those types will never forgo the bowl system that is in place now. Especially when they pair two non-BCS schools together in a BCS bowl instead of having Iowa play Bosie St. in the Fiesta Bowl and TCU play Georgia Tech in the Orange Bowl. Lame FBS. Lame.

You have your answers to the questions I know you are asking yourself. No need to thank me.
