Friday

The NBA season started already? Is there a more boring start to a professional sport season then the NBA? I tried watching some of the Nuggets vs. Sonics game (Mostly to see Kevin Durant throw up bad shots on a bad ankle) but the game was sloppy and I suppose that’s what NBA fans are used to now-a-days. Watched some of the Laker game as well. Kobe scored 13 in the first and 18 in the fourth…where is the production in the middle of the game?

I don’t get the NBA anymore. I grew up in Jordan’s heyday and I don’t think I could have grown up at a better time. Sure I could have been a kid and witnessed the revival of the NBA in the mid to late 80’s but I got to see the greatest player of all time win 6 championships, and of course I was a Bulls fan. Who wasn’t in the early 90’s? I have to say though; my favorite player of all time is Reggie Miller. Say what you want about him, he is one of the most clutch players I’ve ever seen and although he never won a championship he had to go through the Bulls every year. How about the time he hit two 3’s in 4 seconds vs. the Knicks in 95 and looked back at Spike Lee? Or the time he scored 8 points in 8.9 seconds vs. Jordan and the Bulls. The time he did break through and make it to the finals he ran into the powerhouse that was the L.A. Lakers, when no one touched them in the playoffs. Reggie should go down as one of the best shooters of all time and also one of the best playoff performers ever. With Reggie in your lineup you had a punchers chance every game and you were never out of it. I was actually excited when the Mav’s entertained him last year in hopes he’d sign for the playoffs; they could have used him vs. the Warriors in their first round collapse.

Off topic but still important; Barry Bonds says he will “boycott” the Hall of Fame if his record breaking ball is branded with an asterisk and put on display. I don’t know what to think about this personally. In a way I agree with Bonds because I wouldn’t want something I’ve worked my whole career to achieve be made a mockery of in the Hall. But again; if he did use performing enhancing drugs then he shouldn’t be in the Hall of Fame anyway. I did vote on Marc Echo’s website and I voted for just sending the ball to Cooperstown with nothing on it. I believe that the ball is bigger then baseball, it represents the greatest record in all of sports and to destroy it or lessen its value shouldn’t have happened and I think people let their feelings towards Bonds get the best of them when America voted. Prediction: ball does not get displayed but Bond’s jersey and a picture of him after he hit the home run will be displayed, possibly along with the bat. Bonds should be a first ballot Hall of Famer but something will pop up furthering our suspicion of drug use and he will wait along with McGwire.

Next week; Monday Montage, Andy Reid’s family crisis, College football and NFL wrap up (including the game of the century), possibly Gopher Hockey recap. Dare I mention the Gopher Football team? Gopher basketball preview? Well if anyone reads this shoot me some ideas on what you’d like to read and I’ll write about it.
