You've got airness

Last night I had tickets to the famed US Air Guitar Regional Championships at the Varsity Theater. I've heard that it is a good time so I thought, why not? Besides the the $5 drinks and the one really drunk guy in front of us (that kept saying something in gibberish followed by "mother fucker, wooo" in a drunk, high pitched voice) the show was a really good time.

For those of you that have never been to an air guitar championship before the rules are pretty simple. Just rock out. There are usually judges and they grade on an Olympic figure skating basis (4.0-6.0) and no one is safe from criticism. The contestants range from being pros (little known fact, you can actually be a professional air guitarist as our MC for the night, Bjorn Turoque (get it?) is. Did not know that before last night) to drunk guys that just want to embarrass themselves on stage. Each player has a stage name (Tony Danzig, Alex 180, Fart, to name a few) and a costume to go with it, because after all, what is air guitar without a little stage presence? Falling down was a big hit and one guy was banging his head so much that his glasses fell off and broke on the ground. Sadly, that was not enough for him to move on because all he did was bang his head.

Also last night we received a special treat as Hot Lixx Hulahan, the reigning US and World Air Guitar Champion, was in the house as a judge and also performed. Hot Lixx is basically the Jimi Hendrix of air guitarists and he rocked hard. . I brought my camera along to capture the event...
